It’s Good News

The inspiration for this piece came when I opened CNN in my browser just now. I didn’t stay long. The news? Nothing good, except for a 79-year-old man who was finally reunited with his family after having been abducted as a child. Was that entirely good news? Shocking is more like it. Whether it is good news or otherwise will be revealed as time passes; it’s there right now because it sells. Sells what? Readership, I suppose. Plus, it is an excellent opportunity for you to purchase something that is being advertised on the CNN website.

At first glance, it is good news. At second glance, what do the families, both the new family and old family, of this older man think about it? A crime was committed 70 years ago. Is it going to tilt the axis of the world? No, I wouldn’t imagine that it would. What is the point? Why did it happen?

Perhaps the answer is more along the lines of whatever deeds you did long ago can still eventually come to light.

So, let’s think about that. Is this story powerful enough to put the fear of God into a bad guy? No, I don’t suppose it would be. A bad guy is going to do what a bad guy is going to do until they die or they get caught. Nothing is going to dissuade them. Or not much. More than likely, it will put fear into the parents of children that the likelihood of their child…
