Regarding Stanley

Stanley, When he was fast. 2015. Photo taken by author. There are two parakeets in the cage: a blue one having some seeds and a green one at the lower back part of the cage.

I am an honest person. Pretty much. I write about things that have happened to me. Something happened this morning. I was talking to my friend on the phone. Right then, Stanley, my cat, decided to take a dump. You know how when with dogs they don’t like you to look at them? There always seems to be something shameful about the whole thing. Yes, I know we need to be ready with our doggie bags to pick up the evidence, but dogs do not like you to monitor their dumps. It’s been years since I walked a dog, but I’d always stare off into the distance like there was some cosmic happening that caught my eye. I don’t know if the dogs knew my attention had been diverted, but I sensed a bit of relief.

Cats, on the other hand, seem to take the upper hand and look at you with daring in their eyes. It’s like Stanley said to me, “Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?” He was in his cat litter box and was minding his own business until I caught sight of what he was doing. I was bad Mommy and decided to engage in a stare battle. At the same time, he was having his dump. He didn’t like it. So, immediately upon completion, he whirled to leave the room. Unfortunately, his turd didn’t stay in the litter box. It looked to me like it was still hanging on. Stanley is fast. I just couldn’t be sure.
