Where I Stand
In the last 22 days, I’ve had 147 reads recorded by Medium. I have made $3.08. That’s 2¢ an article. This is nothing new. It’s been this way for a very long time. I was disabused of my expectation that earning money for people reading my stories was going to amount to much. I went from thinking I might eventually pay the rent every month to buying groceries once a month to finally getting a cup of coffee once a month. Actually, I think a cup of coffee costs more than $3.08.
There was a long period (I’ve been writing at Medium since Thanksgiving of 2021) when I railed against Medium’s powers that be. For instance, I am notified that I have new followers and subscribers, but I never see that news reflected in Medium’s official accounting. I have complained a few times, and I am still waiting to see what Medium does. The answer from whoever was sitting at the controls that day was that my new followers and subscribers had somehow flipped the wrong switch in their accounts. In the same breath, they also said that their program had some sort of glitch. They were working on it. I haven’t seen any difference. I believe this was July 2024.
We are all children, and when children are ignored long enough, they realize that beating on a closed door won’t work. Or, along a more grown-up vein, if they don’t return your phone call, you can safely assume…
