I’ve been with Medium for almost three years. I used to write all the time. Recently, I pared my publishing schedule down to three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I did this because of the paltry views and no reads I would get on the weekends for anything I wrote, even though, like yesterday, which was a Sunday, I had 80 views and 46 reads and earned 2¢. My reasoning is people tend to have lives during the week that involve jobs and school. People with families, especially those who have children, either park them in front of the television on the weekends or go off and do fun things with them. Also, I don’t understand how Medium calculates anything anymore.
It’s just a theory, but that’s the one I’m working with right now.
I also decided not to put all my eggs in one basket with Medium. It just wasn’t paying off, much less with money, but with reads, claps, comments, and subscriptions. I have a core following that reads my stuff often and engages with comments. It’s fun to bounce things off another writer because it ignites the old brain cells to write new stories. And that is why I stay with Medium.
